Before we knew it, December arrived and Mexico’s cultural calendar as the year draws to a close and people begin to prepare for the winter season holidays gets busier than ever!
In Mexico, December festivities begin on December 12th, celebrating the Virgin of Guadalupe, and end on January 6th, the Three Wise Men Day, concluding the festive period colloquially referred to as Guadalupe-Reyes.
Posadas Navideñas are the heart of Mexico’s Christmas traditions, which include the breaking of a colorful Piñata. Christmas dinner is traditionally taken on the evening of December 24th and the 25th tends to be a quiet day of rest and repair and is also a public holiday, which for practical purposes in our community, this year means a 1-day delay in garbage collection.
This month, our BajaMatters may seem a little longer because most of the members of the editorial committee will be out of town, exploring the world and celebrating with our families and since it’s still only a small team taking care of creating this newsletter, we decided to combine December 2023 and January 2024 in this issue.

Introducción
Antes de que nos diéramos cuenta, llegó diciembre y el calendario cultural de México, a medida que el año llega a su fin y la gente comienza a prepararse para las fiestas, ¡se vuelve más ocupado que nunca!
En México, las festividades de diciembre comienzan el 12 de diciembre, celebrando a la Virgen de Guadalupe, y finalizan el 6 de enero, el Día de los Reyes Magos. Este período festivo es conocido coloquialmente como Guadalupe-Reyes.
Las Posadas Navideñas son el corazón de las tradiciones navideñas de México, que incluyen romper una colorida piñata. La cena de Navidad se toma tradicionalmente la noche del 24 de diciembre y el 25 suele ser un día tranquilo de descanso y reparación y además es festivo, lo que este año supone un 1 día de retraso en la extracción de basura en nuestra comunidad.
Este mes, BajaMatters es un poco más largo porque la mayoría de las que integramos el comité editorial estaremos fuera de la ciudad, explorando el mundo y celebrando con nuestras familias así que decidimos combinar en esta edición, los meses de diciembre de 2023 y enero de 2024.
