Native Garden in Mision San Diego by: Maria Luisa Elizundia In case you haven't seen it yet, we invite you to walk through the Cul de Sac in Misión San Diego and see how beautiful our new garden turned out. After observing that that garden looked very neglected, with plants that had grown out of control and that not only was too much water used for irrigation, but also that some unconscious and inconsiderate neighbors took their pets to defecate and did not pick up the waste, I decided to get to work and present a project for improvement to the Bajamar Board of Directors. By the way, if you are one of the people who does collect and put away your pet's waste, thank you very much. If you are one of those who does not do it, please do it. It is not just a healthy practice for our environment, but it shows that you are a good neighbor who enjoys order and cleanliness and, above all, that you are respectful of the rights of others. After evaluating my proposal and determining that it was work that could be done in-house with existing resources and would also save water, the Board of Directors approved the garden improvement in November 2023. We owe the design of the new garden to Pedro, the head of our team of gardeners, who placed emphasis on the use of native plants and cacti that do not need to be watered because rainwater, morning dew and the sea breeze are enough for them. Work began in November, as soon as the project was approved. It was hard work for the BHOA landscaping team, but it was worth the effort. The landscaping work was completed in January when the finishing touches were made and the white gravel was laid. Don't you think the work was worth it? Keeping our common gardens clean and tidy is something that characterizes the Missions and the new Cul de Sac garden of Mision San Diego is an example of how gardening can be improved in all the missions, making water use more efficient by planting native species that need little to live and thrive and also contribute so that the local fauna and flora prosper and do not disappear.

Jardín Nativo en Misión San Diego por: Maria Luisa Elizundia Por si aún no lo has visto, te invitamos a que camines por el Cul de Sac en Misión San Diego y veas lo hermoso que quedó nuestro nuevo jardín. Después de observar que ese jardín se veía muy descuidado, con plantas que habían crecido sin control y que no sólo se usaba demasiada agua para su riego, sino que también algunos vecinos inconscientes y desconsiderados llevaban a sus mascotas a defecar y no recogían los deshechos, decidí tomar manos a la obra y presentar un proyecto para su mejora ante el Consejo Directivo de Bajamar. Por cierto, si tu eres de las personas que sí recoge y pone en su lugar los deshechos de sus mascotas, muchas gracias. Si eres de las que no lo hace, por favor hazlo. No es nada más una práctica sana para nuestro ambiente, sino que demuestra que sí eres un buen vecino que disfruta del orden y la limpieza y sobre todo, que es respetuoso de los derechos de los demás. Después de evaluar mi propuesta y determinar que era un trabajo que se podía realizar internamente con recursos existentes y que también ahorraría agua, el Consejo Directivo aprobó la mejora del jardín en noviembre de 2023. El diseño del nuevo jardín se lo debemos a Pedro, el jefe de nuestro equipo de jardineros, quien puso énfasis en el uso de plantas nativas y cactáceas que no necesitan ser regadas pues les basta el agua de lluvia, el rocío matinal y la brisa marina. El trabajo inició en noviembre, en cuanto el proyecto fue aprobado. Fue un trabajo arduo para el equipo de jardineros de la BHOA, pero valió la pena el esfuerzo. Los trabajos de jardinización terminaron en enero cuando se dieron los toques finales y se colocó la grava blanca. ¿No te parece que el trabajo valió la pena? Mantener nuestros jardines comunes limpios y ordenados es algo que caracteriza a las Misiones y el nuevo jardin del cul de sac de Misión San Diego es un ejemplo de cómo se puede mejorar la jardinería en todas las misiones, eficientando el uso del agua sembrando especies nativas que necesitan poca para vivir y prosperar y además, contribuyendo para que la fauna y la flora local prospere y no desparezca.
