Neighbor: Sempra by: Eduardo Cuevas Sempra Energy is an
American company, based in San Diego California, and one of the companies found
guilty in 2000-2001 of the biggest energy fraud in the state of California for
which it was forced to pay millions of dollars to the consumers. On many occasions Sempra has
incurred bad environmental practices and has caused ecological disasters, such
as the one occurred in Aliso Canyon in 2015. With the help of Mexican
businessmen and government in the mid 1990's, this energy company found in
Mexico the space in which it has been able to grow despite the multiple
irregularities with which it began its operation, the damage caused to the
environment and corrupting institutions and Mexican society. Unfortunately for Baja
California and specifically for Ensenada, Sempra facilities and operation
constitute an imminent danger of great magnitude. Bajamar, due to its immediate
closeness, is the most affected community. Sempra – Energía Costa
Azul is the building located a few 2 kilometers south of Bajamar, seen from the
road; seen from inside down, we know that Sempra is literally in the
neighborhood. The construction of this installation dates back to the beginning
of 2003, and in 2008, began its operation with natural gas storage. Currently, natural gas is
brought on LNG ships, stored, and used mainly as supply for the electricity
generation plants located in different places in the state of Baja California,
mainly for its subsequent export to the United States. At the end of the year
2020 Sempra received the authorization of the Government of Mexico not only to
expand its facilities but also to reconfigure its operations with the purpose
of transforming them into a liquefaction plant. Sempra projects that the
expansion of its facilities and transformation of its operation will be ready
in a very short time and will start operating in full between 2024 and 2025.

El Vecino Indeseable: Sempra por: Eduardo Cuevas Sempra Energy es una empresa norteamericana, con base
en San diego California y una de las culpables del gran fraude energético
llevado a cabo en el Estado de California en los años 2000-2001 y por el que
fue obligada a pagar cientos de millones de dólares a los consumidores
norteamericanos. En muchas ocasiones, Sempra ha incurrido en malas
prácticas ambientales y ha provocado desastres ecológicos, tal como el de
Aliso Canyon en el año 2015. Con ayuda empresarios y gobernantes mexicanos a
mediados de los 90’s, esta compañía energética encontró en México el espacio en
el cual ha podido crecer a pesar de las múltiples irregularidades con las que
inició su operación, el daño causado al medio ambiente y corrompiendo a
instituciones y sociedad mexicana. Desafortunadamente para Baja California y en particular
para Ensenada, las instalaciones y operación de Sempra constituyen un peligro
latente de gran magnitud. Bajamar, por su inmediata cercanía, es la comunidad
más afectada. Sempra – Energía Costa Azul es la edificación ubicada a escasos
2 kilómetros al sur de Bajamar, visto desde la carretera; visto desde adentro
de Bajamar, sabemos que está literalmente en la vecindad. La construcción de
esta instalación se remonta a inicios del año 2003, y en 2008 inició su
operación con almacenamiento de gas natural. Actualmente, el gas natural es traído en buque tanques,
almacenado y utilizado principalmente como suministro para las plantas de
generación de electricidad ubicadas en diferentes sitios del estado de Baja
California, principalmente para su posterior exportación a los Estados
Unidos. A finales del año 2020 Sempra recibió la autorización del
gobierno de México no sólo para expandir sus instalaciones sino también para reconfigurar
sus operaciones con el propósito de transformarse en una planta de
licuefacción. Sempra proyecta que la expansión de sus instalaciones y
transformación de su operación estará lista en muy poco tiempo y empezará a
operar en pleno entre los años 2024 y 2025. El gas natural licuado será
